Progress Report: End of June

Posted: June 29, 2010 in Uncategorized

We’re over half-way through the championship now, and our season isn’t going too badly. We’re currently lying second in the standings, which is more than we could have hoped for with the new car, so that’s great. Even more surprising is that we were actually leading the championship coming into the previous round, but things didn’t go quite to plan when we got there…

Blyton was a new format of event for British rallycross: a night race. Although the heats took place in the day, the finals were under floodlights, an interesting idea which made for great TV and good action for the spectators. We started the day well, winning the first heat and with a lot of confidence in the car having replaced a few disastrously worn parts. After that it went downhill somewhat.

Lining up on the back row of the A final, I had a reasonable start until it came to the tricky proces of changing from second to third gear, something I seemed unable to do. Although I fought valiantly to make up places in neutral, it seemed that everyone who was in gear had the advantage, so I dropped to last. After that it went from bad to worse: in my efforts to catch up I paid a violent visit to the armco on the back straight and bent the steering. Not realising this, I decided to keep pushing (although by now most people had probably finished and gone home for tea), almost resulting in an even more spectacular crash as I tipped it on two wheels and punted head first into the marshals post.

After that I decided I would have to cruise round or I’d end up killing myself (and possibly the marshals), so I had to settle for fifth in the points. It could have been worse, but it was disappointing to lose the top place in the championship standings. The car looked awful, but it turned out just to need a good tap with a large hammer in a few places and, while it’s not exactly a factory-finish, it’s scrubbed up nicely ready for next time out.

Speaking of which, the next round is on August 8th at Mallory Park, Leicestershire. Come and say hello if you’re there, and fingers crossed we can get our championship bid back on track.

Happy New Year

OK, so it’s June, but the website’s only just up and running, so better late than never…

Welcome to the all-new Oscar Motorsport website – more humming and clicking the fingers than singing and dancing at the moment, but we’re getting there. Have a look around, and keep checking back as we’ll be adding more stuff to the site over the next few decades. I mean weeks.

If you’d like to get in touch, use the Say Hello tab, unless you’re selling windows or life insurance, in which case ours are fine and rallycross drivers like to live dangerously, in that order.

I hope you enjoy the site, and we’ll see you in the paddock for a cup of tea and a chinwag very soon.
